About Me
My name is Andrew Maury. I was born and raised on Nantucket Island in Massachusetts, where I lived until I attended school at Boston College. After receiving my B.A. in Communications, I moved to San Francisco with my then girlfriend, who later became my wife. Although I still spend a good amount of time on Nantucket, I reside outside of San Francisco, and, if it's snowing, you'll most likely find me in the mountains around Lake Tahoe.
I've always been interested in technology and computers which led me to my first job as a web designer and developer at GameDaily in San Francisco. Soon after, I earned my California Real Estate Salesperson license. This probaby came as little surprise to those who knew my family, since my dad worked as a contractor and developer on Nantucket for over 25 years and my grandmother founded Maury Real Estate (now called the Maury People and not associated with our family) in the 1940s.
While working at Bay Valley Real Estate in San Francisco, I obtained my California Broker's license in late 2006. The following year, I closed over $12M in residential sales.
I've always been a little restless and needed a new endeavor while still working as a Broker Associate. It was then that I founded Nantucket Brand in an effort to bring the style I knew and grew up with to others that appreciated that same classic, comfortable style. With the help of my family, we opened a retail store on Main Street on Nantucket in 2008. This soon led to the re-opening of The Emporium of Nantucket, which my grandfather and then my father, operated for over 40 years before closing in 1988. In 2011, my parents opened a third store, The Emporium of Nantucket Home Center. The stores are now operated separately by my parents, while I run the Nantucket Brand site selling both clothing and nautical decor and gifts.
Again needing a new challenge, I obtained my Massachusetts Real Estate License at the beginning of 2011. Collaborating with my brother Stephen, we founded Beacon Real Estate on Nantucket. Stephen runs the day to day operations of the company while I am the principal broker. My youngest brother, Dustin, works as a salesperson (and also works some for Nantucket Brand). The brokerage offers a model that is unique on Nantucket by acting as an exclusive buyer's agency. The company also offers 25% commission rebates to clients and donates 5% of every sale to local organiztions.
Besides my work with Nantucket Brand, Beacon Real Estate, and California Real Estate brokerage, I work as an ecommerce consultant specializing in Magento. My work typically involves improving on page optimization, site customization, making order processes more efficient, muti-channel selling, and distributing content in a efficient manner.
Although I sometimes work too much, I still find time to enjoy my hobbies. Skiing is much better when the snow is measured in feet rather than inches. The outcome of a Red Sox game can still change my mood. I like to bike. I like to hike, but hiking is more fun when sharing snacks and a bottle of wine. A day at the beach is best followed by a stop at Cisco Brewery.
On this blog, I share links to things I find interesting, photos, random thoughts, ecommerce tips, and more. Feel free to leave comments or contact me.
